In this article I examine the 1894 case of Frank Smiley and Willis Clark - the former charged with sodomy in territorial Utah. I also explore early legal approaches to LGBTQ+ issues within a broader historical context. I delved into and found here archival records which reveal societal attitudes, court processes, and the ways in which the case both reflects and shapes Utah's historical record of sexuality and legal definitions. The analysis provides insight into shifting cultural and legal norms of the time.
